Temtem types and the MTG color pie
People have done it for Pokemon types so why not?
Since there are twelve types I like to think that each color (plus colorless) has a type. You’re free to disagree, particularly since the types don’t always match the elements in MTG colors.
Neutral
Seeing as it is the closest thing to a type-less temtem I think it fits in Colorless just fine. You can also make an argument for White instead (since Neutral temtem live in savannahs, the type is represented by the literal color white and White tends to be the normie color anyways) but I don’t think most of its moves feel White (Darkness, anyone?) and I like my symmetry anyways.
Digital
No duh, they are basically begging to be classified as artifact creatures by MTG’s terms.
Electric
Electricity in general tends to be Red in MTG, which sets it apart from most fantasy where lightning gets divine associations. I feel White is appropriate for Electric temtem, however, especially since their flavor is more religious in nature and their homeplace of Cipanku is literally called “the land of the Pansun”. Electric is essentially the closest thing to a “light type” anyways, alongside Wind.
Wind
Wind is normally Blue or Green (the latter almost exclusively for anti-air spells) in MTG but flying is a primary mechanic in White and Blue so either fits well. Wind temtem are strong against Toxic ones and in general have lowkey angelic associations. Spoilers: in the final battle in the storyline, the Tuwai evolutions all use the only actual light move, Pansolar Beam (still unavailiable in gameplay sadly), making it the closest thing to a “light type” alongside Electric.
Water
Of course its Blue. Moving on.
Mental
Blue is the color most associated with psychic powers so no brainer. Many moves do have a shadow/darkness connotations and the type is coded as purple so you can make an argument for Black instead, but seeing as Mental types are more often associated with the academic scene I think Blue is better in my opinion.
Toxic
Essentially tailor made for Black. Black is the color most associated with venoms and toxicity besides Green, but seeing as Toxic temtem are mostly flavored as pollution derived, their homeland of Tucma is a massive swamp (and the second most common place to find them are sewers) and the type itself is represented by the literal color black I think they’re perfect for Black alone.
Earth
Earth is normally Red or White and that’s more or less how I initially interpreted it, especially since Kisiwa is a sunny place. However, many Earth moves are flavoured around mud and there’s a lowkey association with darkness since most are found underground and you can only access Aisha’s Hearth through a dark cave. Its not a perfect fit and one I’m happiest to revise, but for now I think I’ve made a good enough argument.
Fire
Fire is Red. Next.
Melee
Fighting is very Red, and unlike the analogous Fighting types over at Pokemon Melee temtem are flavoured not as heroes but as drunkards at Lochburg. Further, Inner Spirit summons a dragon, and dragons are (usually) Red, so it is fitting that a Red type is the one type to summon dragons.
Nature
Life, healing, harmony and strangling vines are all very Green. Plus, it has a few moves like Plague, thus allowing for Green’s more toxic side without dragging the Toxic type into this. Perfect.
Crystal
Alongside Earth this is the toughest one to properly fit. Crystals are technically every color in MTG and some aspects of this type (reddish magenta color, association with mining) remind me of Red, but I think the overall symbolism is more Green, being associated with life, purification and enlightenment. Many Crystal temtem are green, the Crystal Shrine is Green and there are crystals in Tucma growing like trees.
