Spellbound review

--

Spellbound is pretty much a generic pseudo-Disney princess flick, complete with a teenage protagonist and the message being about family. Some of the songs are decent, but it seems that it wants to pay homage to Wish in having mostly mediocre and bizarre lyrics.

Credit is due to the concept of the movie. Parents being transformed into things is hardly new, but they are transformed from the beginning of the movie so there’s a layer of mystery to them. Kudos in that regard.

The animation is a bubbly CGI trying to be Pixar. Creature designs are nonetheless pretty creative, if being edgeless and cutesy.

Overall, I feel this is a step backwards for Skydance, especially given how wonderful Wondla was.

No recommendation.
