Pterosaurs of WWD 2025

Infernodrakon being eaten by the T.rex. That’s about all they serve in this show.

This time the review will contain spoilers, so viewer discretion.

Pterosaurs were an integral part of the original Walking with Dinosaurs. Though not often the centre of the episode, we got gems like Giant of the Skies, on the the best episodes of the original series.

In the new series, pterosaurs do show up in five out of the six episodes, but they’re near exclusively relegated to either the background or as dinosaur food.

Episode one has an Infernodrakon (likely a last minute dub over Quetzalcoatlus) that protects its nest and is promptly killed by a Tyrannosaurus.

Episode two has an Alanqa. It is inaccurately portrayed as an azhdarchid, likely so they could reuse the model. It is the only pterosaur depiction that actually is interesting, the animal stalking the forests and eating baby Spinosaurus. It illustrates perfectly the horror of terrestrially stalking pterosaurs.

Episodes 3 and 4 have Cryodrakon, which only serves as fodder for tyrannosaurs once more.

In summation, all pterosaurs are azhdarchids (except for Alanqa, which is nonetheless portrayed using the azhdarchid model) and are either scenery or dinosaur food (again, except for Alanqa).

It’s rather disappointing.
