Netflix Devil May Cry review
This Netflix adaptation of Devil May Cry is true to the spirit of the games, though as we’ll see not so much the lore. It’s full of action, one-liners, and awful, godawful exposition and bizarre character development. True, it’s more loyal to the lore than say DMC: Devil May Cry, but then there’s this bizarre undoing of the supernatural elements of the series, boiling everything down to DNA and quantum physics. In a way it’s a spiritual adaptation to The Salvation War (remember that?) due to said demystification.
The one saving grace is the episode “The first circle”, which is done almost with no dialogue and showing different artstyles. It is a mastery of storytelling that I shall not spoil further.
A lukewarm recommendation, or at least jump to “the first circle”.
