Moana 2 review
Moana ends seemingly with Moana’s tribe leaving Motunui. This seems to have been retconned to just Moana going on adventures. And that’s the beginning of the problems.
To find a lost island (likely inspired by Polynesian home island myths like Hawaiki) she receruits a crew of frankly useless characters that do little to contribute in the story; one is even there against his ill, and is seriously the most useless one of the bunch. Moana still retains a bromance chemistry with Maui and has now an adorable little sister, so some relationships are still organic.
The villain is less sympathetic than the original movie’s, though there’s a minor villain with a sympathetic goal, perhaps to make up for that. Tamatoa is nowhere to be seen until the end credits, for a brief gag. Poor guy, never having his chance to shine as a villain.
A lukewarm recomendation.
