Iyanu review

Iyanu is a series inspired (not directly based though) by Yoruba mythology, where the spirits of light and dark fought, leaving behind corrupted beasts that the chosen one must heal.

Conceptually, the series has merit, being a rare series based on African civilizations and mythology. It also portrays court politics accurately and the main chaarcter is likeable without being too “hyper” unlike many recent young female protagonists. The mentor in the first episode was also a mixture of motherly and harsh, which is quite a unique combination.

Where it falters is the pacing and editing, making many scenes look stilted and awkward. The animation is alright but you can see where they cut corners.

Overall a decent recommendation.
