Dog Man review
Another Dav Pilkey adaptation by Dreamworks, Dog Man has a similar zany humor to Captain Underpants, but it relies more on silliness rather than toilet humor (though a few such jokes do exist here). It’s not a comedic riot, though there are a few genuinely good jokes.
Rather, what it excells at is in its emotional gravitas. Despiste the silly way he comes about, Dog Man is a deeply tragic character, and so is his nemesis. The movie even delves into generational trauma, and does so succintly and not light at all despiste all the comedy. Though there are some dark jokes to be had about Petey’s circumstance.
The animation is a stylized CGI that delves into comic book aesthetics even more than Captain Underpants, and the textures on Petey, his clone and Dog Man are almost velvetty.
Overall, a well animated rolled coaster that I cannot recommend enough.
